Harrogate Mind raise funds to provide mental health befriending in the community using volunteer befrienders match with people who need support

Harrogate Mind are a small dedicated team of people who are committed to supporting people living with mental health issues. In the past support has been delivered at their Centre but they are looking at new ways of delivering services within the community. Service users are lonely and isolated and have mental health issues and partnering them with a volunteer Befriender will mean that they can be supported without having to come in to the Centre.

During COVID 19, Harrogate Mind have been operating a telephone service and have a growing awareness that people who they are supporting would welcome alternative opportunities to be supported outside of the Centre. This may be due to health anxieties due to COVID or because of the rural nature of the District people are less able to access the service.

Harrogate Mind will match trained Befrienders with clients who can meet in the community for a cup of coffee, for a shopping trip or a walk to help build confidence and self-esteem and help people feel part of their community.

Money raised will be used to employ a Befriending Coordinator to manage the project and recruit volunteers to help us succeed.
